Police rules out Headley's visit to Kerala
Kochi | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Punnoose today said terror suspect David Coleman Headley had not visited Kerala but his suspected accomplice Tahawwur Hussain Rana was on a visit to the city. Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of a programme here, Mr Punnoose said ''there was no indication that Headley had visited Kerala but we have every reason to believe that the person, who stayed at a five-star hotel in the city was the same person, who is in the FBI custody.'' Headley and Rana were held by FBI a month back on charges of plotting attacks in India and Denmark. Mr Punnoose said the passport and immigration documents had showed that Rana had visited Kochi and the police were probing into the purpose of his visit to the city. The DGP also said the informations collected by the State Police and Intelligence-wing were being sent to the National Investigation Agency(NIA) and other central agencies, who were retracing the steps of the terror suspects in the country. Detailed investigations revealed that Headley had stayed at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai and Rana had also visited the metropolis before the 26/11 attacks. Mr Punnoose said the police had undertaken a massive search of the hotels to ascertain whether Headley had visited Kerala, but had found records pertaining to 'various Ranas'. An official of the NIA was in the city to probe into the alleged visit of Rana and a woman named Samraz Rana(supposedly his wife) to the city.
