K'taka CM refuses to join issue with Governor
Bangalore | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Refusing to join issue with state Governor H R Bhardwaj, who has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the work of rehabilitation of flood victims in the state, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said he would meet the former personally and brief him on the the matter.

In a press conference here, reacting to Mr Bharadwaj's statement that the work of the rehabilitation of flood victims was going on at snail's pace due to lack of focus by the state government, the Chief Minister, while strongly denying it, claimed that even the Centre had appreciated the state's initiative on the issue.

Stating that lack of information might have prompted the Governor to pass the remark castigating the state government on the issue of the work of rehabilitation of flood victims, the Chief Minister opined ''I myself will meet the Governor and brief him on the measures taken by the state government on the issue.'' He said the state government had released Rs 1,579 crore towards relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims and out of them Rs 1,132 crore had been spent so far. ''Over 90 per cent of the people, who lost their houses, have been paid statutory compensation amount and the remaining would be paid in a couple of days,'' he said, adding the state government would also start disbursing crop compensation to the farmers who have lost their standing crops due to floods and heavy rains.
