SC stays MP HC's order giving land to Indira Sagar dam oustees
New Delhi | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

The Supreme Court has stayed the Madhya Pradesh High Court's order directing the state government to give minimum of two hectares of farm land to all adult sons and unmarried adult daughters of those displaced from the Indira Sagar dam reservoir site as well as submersion areas.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan also stayed the contempt proceedings initiated by the High Court against some senior state government officers.

The orders were passed by the apex court on an appeal filed by the state government contending that the High Court had wrongly interpreted the provisions of the relief and rehabilitation policies of the state.
