Delhi chills at 8.6 degrees C

A sharp chill set in the air in Delhi with the Capital witnessing the season's lowest temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius today.

Though the maximum temperature rose slightly from yesterday's 24.2 to 25.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, the minimum plummetted from yesterday's 10.7 degrees and was recorded at 8.6 degrees, two degrees below normal.

An India Meteorological Department official told UNI, ''There has been a sudden dip in the temperature because of the westerly winds blowing through the city.'' With a cold wave in Punjab and Haryana with near-zero temperatures and snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, the chill is likely to intensify in Delhi.

The Weatherman has forceast a drop in the maximum and minimum temperatures to 25 and eight degrees respectively in the next 24 hours. The Capital is likely to witness mainly clear sky tomorrow.
