India Sale of fortified 'Atta' (flour) begins from 132 centres across city
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said her government not only aimed to sell 'Atta' (flour) but to mitigate inflationary trends in food items. While launching sale of whole wheat 'Atta' at a 'Kendriya Bhandar' at R K Ashram Marg, Ms Dikshit reiterated that the Delhi Government was committed to provide maximum relief to the common man to reduce their burden from time to time. Speaking at the function, where state Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Haroon Yusuf, Commissioner (F and Supplies) Jayashree Raghuraman, representatives of Roller Flour Mills Association and senior officials of Kendriya Bhandar were also present, Ms Dikshit said the Delhi Government would leave no stone unturned to provide maximum help to the common man as they were the backbone for the overall development of Delhi. She said the Delhi Government had committed to delivering benefits to the most needy in the society. Initiatives with the PDS were reflective of this Government, providing essential staple foods for all. In this context, the Chief Minister said her Government had also shown concern about the average household and was quick to announce maximum relief of Rs 40 per cooking cylinder thereby becoming the only state government in the country to take the maximum load of the common mans pocket. The Chief Minister said the wholesale and retail price of wheat and 'Atta' had shown a sharp increase in the last few months, for which the Delhi Government had taken a major step to provide 'Atta' and pulses at a lesser rate to the open market. She said the Delhi Government was offering whole wheat nutritious Atta in 10 kg bags at Rs 139 against Rs 189 in the open market. Ms Dikshit also informed that no ration card would be required for the purchase of 'Atta' and pulses. Speaking on this occasion, Food Supplies Minister Haroon Yusuf said providing 'Atta' at affordable price would prove to be a big relief to Delhiites. He also informed that elaborate arrangements had been made to ensure periodic checks and laboratory tests to ensure quality of 'Atta'. He said his department would be more vigilant and would take strict action against hoarding of food items. The Minister informed that sale of four pulses like Kala Chana, Kabuli Chana, Chana Dal and Rajma Chitra also resumed from 288 Mother Dairies across the city. It may be recalled that conversion of wheat in Atta has been undertaken in collaboration with the Roller Flour Mills Association to hygienically grind the wheat allocated by the Centre under its Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS), fortified with iron and folic acid and pack it for distribution through the outlets. A total of 80481 M.T. of wheat has been allocated by the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution under the Open Market Sale Scheme to check inflationary trends. -- (UNI) -- 21DI25.xml
