HIV/AIDS and SRH services should be converged for better result
Patna | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Gramin Evam Vikas Parishad (GENVP) today stressed the need for convergence of programmes related to HIV and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) for combating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.

Addressing a media workshop organised by the GENVP in collaboration with PATH, an organisation working for promoting global health, the GENVP General Secretary R K P Singh, Amritrajit Saha and Irfan Khan of PATH told newspersons here that after working at various places in the country it was found that convergence of the programmes related to HIV/AIDS and SRH was essential. Outlining the wide impact of the HIV/AIDS on the social infrastructure, Mr Saha said a multisectoral approach was required to control the spread of the disease. The people infected with the HIV belongs to the age group which had the potential to add to the productivity of the nation, he said adding that the economy is also facing an adverse impact.

Mr Saha emphasised for involvement of the economic sectors in the schemes prepared for controlling spread of HIV/AIDS in the society.

Meanwhile, Mr Singh spoke about the hassles of the bureaucracy and red tapism hindering the success of the schemes. For getting the desired results, the mindset of the bureaucracy should also be changed, he stressed.
