Govt to submit Lalgarh status report on Nov 23
Kolkata | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

The West Bengal government would submit the status report on alleged disturbances to educational activities in Lalgarh due to police camps in schools to court on November 23, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said.

Talking to mediapersons at Writers' Buildings, Mr Sen said a PIL in this regard was filed yesterday by West Midnapore Bhumija Unnayan Samiti in Calcutta High Court, which directed the state government to submit the status report by Tuesday next.

'' The government is giving priority to all developmental factors, including education, in the Lalgarh region and will submit the status report to court on Monday, '' Mr Sen observed.

The joint forces were camping at different schools in Lalgarh, which, according to students, was coming in the way of studies.

Referring to the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC)'s demand of making casual employees permanent, Mr Sen said the agitation of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) was stalling administrative works in the hills maintaining '' fulfillment of DHGC's demand may take more time if the agitation continues.'' The DGHC had demanded that its number of permanent employees should be increased to 6000 from 3600 at present.

Mr Sen also informed that he would accompany Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to East Midnapore tomorrow.
