RBI to launch polymer currency soon
New Delhi | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

One hundred crore pieces of polymer currency notes of Rs 10 will be introduced in the country soon, government said today.

The Government has decided to introduce one billion pieces of polymer bank notes in Rs 10 denomination on trial basis with a view to increasing life of bank notes, Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena informed Lok Sabha. Polymer currency lasts longer than paper currency, currently in vogue in the country.

Reserve Bank of India has initiated the process to purchase Rs 10 polymer notes because counterfeiting is negligible in notes of this denomination, the Minister informed.
