India 35 monuments untraceable, admits Govt
Out of 3675 monuments and sites of national importance coming under the control of ASI, 35 of them across the country are found to be untraceable, the Rajya Sabha was informed. Among the missing monuments, 12 were in Delhi itself including the MotiGate of Shershahs Delhi, Mauza Babarpur Bazidpur, Pool Chadar, Mauza Chaukri Mubarakabad, Alipur Cemetery, Bara Khamba Cemetery, Tomb of Capt. Mc Barnett and others who fell in an attack on Kishanganj. In a written reply, Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy said the main factors responsible for it are the rapid urbanisation, pressure of developmental-projects, inadequate staff in ASI for protecting the monuments. As against the requirement of 13,230 monument attendants, only 3463 of them are in position. Creation of 10,000 monument attendants post is under the consideration of the Government.
