HC judges declare assets on website
Chennai | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

All the 54 judges of the Madras High Court, including Chief Justice H L Gokhale, today made their assets public by hosting them on the court's website.

Chief Justice Gokhale has declared movable and immovable property owned by him and his wife Prof Meena Hemant Gokhale, including investments and property in Mumbai.

Other judges, including Justices S J Mukhopadhyaya, Elipe Dharma Rao and FM Ibrahim Kalifulla, also declared their assets.

All the judges of the Madras High Court, including its Madurai Bench, had earlier submitted details of their assets and those of their spouses and minor children to Chief Justice Gokhale.

The court has a strength of 54 judges, against the sanctioned strength of 60, including the Madurai Bench.

Justice K Chandru was the first High Court Judge to declare his assets when he was sworn-in as permanent judge on November eight.

He handed over an envelope, containing details of his assets along with that of his wife and minor daughter, immediately after being sworn in by the Chief Justice. A meeting of the Madras High Court judges in the first week of September this year passed a resolution, stating the details of assets of judges would be posted in the court website by October 31.

The date was later extended to November 15.
