India Bangalore Metro's cost may reach Rs 12,000 Cr: Official
With the extension of the line and escalation of realisation estimates, the total cost of the Bangalore Metro may reach Rs 11,500 to Rs 12,000 crore from the present Rs 8,300 crore, Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Sivasailam said here today. Speaking to the FKCCI members, he said the total length of the Metro from the present South to North and East to West corridor would be extended from the 33 km to 42 km stretch. The extension of lines, which was necessitated to connect the places of movement of large scale people, had been approved, he said, adding, ''The 42-km stretch of Bangalore Metro would be completed as per the schedule by the end of 2012.'' Claiming that the pace of work was on the expected lines, Mr Sivasailam expressed confidence that the first phase of eight-km stretch between Bayyappanahalli and MG Road would be commissioned by the end of December 2010 as per the schedule. BMRCL had not experienced any law suits with regard to the valuation of properties and payment of compensation as its package was very attractive, he claimed. Referring to removal of large number of trees for making way for the Metro line, the official said about 1,500 trees needed to be removed. ''BMRCL had committed to replant about 90 per cent of the removed trees and also have plans to take afforestation programme in over 300 acres near Tippegondanahalli lake in the outskirts of the city'' he said. The impact of tunnel drilling in the underground stretch on water bodies was minimal as per the study conducted by IISc, he said. Replying to questions, he said BMRCL had planned to go for II phase of the Bangalore Metro project for which the Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy had promised to give approval. He said the BMRCL had instituted stringent measures to ensure execution of quality civil works, which were governed by the International standards. -- (UNI) -- 20MS55.xml
