Remember India while talking about Asia: Dalai Lama
New Delhi | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

Referring to the US-China Joint Statement in Beijing related to Asian issues, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today said everybody should remember India while talking about the continent.

''India has become a very important player in the world politics and economy, so every country will have to give importance to India whenever an issue related to Asia comes,'' the Dalai Lama said, delivering a lecture on 'Women and Peace.' Asked about the solution of issues between India and China, he said trust would be the key factor. ''Trust is the key factor to resolve issues between anyone, while suspicion will be harmful,'' he added.

He also praised the Indian Army, saying it is defending the world's largest democracy.

Talking about China, the Dalai Lama said the people of China have every right to know about the reality of any issue and that right should not be suppressed.

''China considers me as a politician, but I am not. Actually, my position is semi-retired,'' the Tibetan leader said.

He further praised US President Barack Obama in his initiative on global issues.

Answering another question, the Nobel laureate said Japan should take leadership in anti-nuclear arms movement, as that country has witnessed the affects of such destruction.
