India GCIC seeks Gov intervention to stop church attacks
Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) today appealed to the Karnataka Governor to stop attack on churches and Minority Christians in the State. GCIC President Sajan K George, in a letter addressed to Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj, a copy of which was released to the press here, alleged despite severe warning by the High Court to the State Government, Karnataka witnessed 56 major attacks against them and Churches. The prepetrators were disrupting peace. In the recent incident on November 18, the Beersheba Church in Bidar was desecrated. The current campaigns were preceded by the distribution of hate literature and door-to-door campaigning with tribal families to spread anti-Christian propaganda, he alleged. Mr George said ''we appeal to you to take visible and concrete steps in confidence building measures to remove hurt, desperation, fear and increasing alienation because of commissions and ommissions of the present government.'' -- (UNI) -- 20MS34.xml
