BJP will ''unanimously'' elect party Prez in time: Naidu
Hyderabad | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

Making it clear that he was not at all in the race for party Presidentship, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said the party would ''unanimously'' elect its new President well in time.

Talking to newspersons here, he said, ''No final decision has been taken on the new BJP President. We have an established procedure. Still a lot of time is there for completion of organisational elections now set in motion and there is no dearth of talented leaders in the party.'' It may be noted that the three-year term of BJP President Rajnath Sign ends on November 26.

Denying media reports that Mr Singh might step down even before his term ended, Mr Naidu said Mr Singh would continue till his successor was elected once the elections at the district and state levels were over. Organisational elections had been completed only at the mandal level now, he pointed out.

Asked about reports that the party had zeroed-in on Maharashtra BJP President Nitin Gadkari to succeed incumbent President Rajnath Singh, he said, ''the media is putting out different names of their choice, including my name, by adding and substracting. I am not in the fray. The party has provided opportunity to me to occupy the top party post twice. I don't want to contest again.''
