Apollo Gleneagles Hospital launches 'Knee Clinic' in Kolkata

Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, India's one of the premier super-speciality hospitals, today launced ''Apollo Knee Clinic'', the specialised clinic to treat patients suffering from moderate to severe knee pain, in the city.

Addressing a press conference here through video conferencing from Chennai, Apollo Hospitals Group chairman Prathap C Reddy said, ''The Knee Clinic would provide a 360-degree approach to patients, right from prevention to treatment and rehabilitation. The clinic would function on a protocol-driven approch ensuring prevention and early diagnosis, followed by effective treatment through a complete disease management programme. ''The unit has been equipped with a dedicated operation theatre and physiotherapy department for post-operative rehabilitation,'' he added.

Stating that the knee clinic in the city was the fourth in the country after Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi, he said, ''Best orthopaedic surgeons would be available in the clinic. They would conduct critical knee operations including, Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. The surgeons would work as a team across the country in the knee clinics.'' The Apollo Hospital group would soon open 16 more knee clinics in the country, he added.

Informing that the Apollo Hospitals Group currently had 8,000 capacities across the country, Dr Reddy said the capacity would be increased to 30,000 in the next three to five years.

Dr Rupali Basu, chief executive officer of Apollo Gleneagles, Kolkata, which celebrated its sixth anniversary today, said, ''The clinic would provide one stop solution which would cater to the requirment of our patients. The clinic has been equipped with state-of-the-art surgical facilities manned by a team of medical professionals exclusively trained to take care of knee surgery patients.'' Total Knee Replacement surgery would cost Rs 1,75,000, she added.

In the last year there was a total of 37,000 knee surgeries in the country, she said, adding, according to a WHO report in 2020 India would have eight million people suffering from knee related problems.

Mohan Bagan striker Jose Baretto was also present on the occasion.
