HAL to invest Rs 25,000 cr in new production facilities
Bangalore | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

The Public sector Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will add capacity to produce and manufacture different models of aircraft involving a capital expenditure of Rs 25,000 crore, company Chairman Ashok Nayak today said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, he said HAL had some 'big ticket' projects coming up which include Multirole Commercial Aircraft (MRCA), Fifth generation fighter aircraft, Multirole Transport Aircraft (MRTA)and Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA). The investment would be completed in ten years time, he said.

''We will be taking up designing of Fifth Gen fighter and MRCA and would be setting up a production and MRO facility for MRCA and RTA. We will meet the funds requirement through our surplus funds and government grants,'' he said.

The HAL chief said the prototype of indigenous Light Combat Helicopter, the lighter version of weaponised ALH, would fly in two weeks and flight tests would continue for about 10 weeks.

On ALH Dhruv that crashed at a air show at Quito in Ecuador was probably due to 'over manoeuvre' and HAL was awaiting the probe report on the crash which was expected to be out in one week.

''We believe over manoeuvre was the reason but next week probably we will hear some thing from the report which had perfectly read the crash data recorder,'' he said.
