Naval Observers, including two women complete training

Six Naval Officers of the 70th Observer Course and four officers of the First Short Service Commission Observer Course, including two women officers, were awarded 'Wings' by Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, Flag Officer Naval Aviation, at an impressive ceremonial parade at INS Garuda here today.

Addressing the parade, Rear Admiral Pillai welcomed the young observers into the aviation world and said the country was acquiring state-of-the-art airborne platforms, potent weapons and the best of the sensors for the Navy and it was for the observers to exploit them in the best possible way. He reminded that their attitude and professional acumen alone would serve them in their career ahead. Lieutenant Abhishek Pathak of the 70th ab-initio Observer Course and Sub Lieutenant Ajay Rajpurohit of the first Short Service Commission Observer Course were adjudged as the best all round Observers of their respective courses. The first batch of women aviators inducted into the Navy, included Sub Lieutenant Seema Rani Sharma and Sub Lieutenant Ambica Hooda. They were also awarded the 'Wings' at the ceremony. Sub Lieutenant Ambica Hooda was adjudged the best trainee in flying of the first Short Service Commission Observer Course. All the graduated officers would now join different squadrons of the Navy, where, they would fly Maritime Patrol Aircraft and helicopters. Lieutenant Mohammed Wahidullah was adjudged best in ground training in the 70th ab-initio Observer Course. The officers, qualified for this onerous responsibility after intensive ground and flying training at the Observer School, where Commander P V G K Nambiar is the Officer-in-Charge. The parade was conducted by Captain Vijesh Kumar Garg, Commanding Officer of INS Garuda.
