Two Shakeel associates killed in encounter

Two suspected associates of underworld don Chhota Shakeel were killed in an encounter at suburban Borivali here today.

Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap at around 1700 hrs near Don Bosco school, where the two alleged gangsters, identified as Imran Jhingada and Samir Khan, arrived in a rickshaw. They opened fire at police when asked to surrender.

In retaliation, police opened fire, in which Imran and Samir sustained injuries, sources said, adding the two were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

Jhingada had about ten cases against him, including extortion, murder and attempt to murder, the sources added.
