Jaya charges CM trying to blame Prabakaran for plight of Tamils
Chennai | Thursday, Nov 19 2009 IST

Opposition AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today accused Chief Minister M Karunanidhi of blaming LTTE Supremo V Prabakaran for the present plight of Lankan Tamils to cover up his own "misdeeds" in the issue.

Reacting to Mr Karunanidhi's remarks that the wrong strategies of Prabakaran led to the fall of LTTE and the present tragic state of Tamils in Lanka, Ms Jayalalithaa, in a statement here, charged that the Chief Minister had betrayed the Tamils.

She said if Mr Karunanidhi was really interested in protecing Lankan Tamils, he should have put pressure on the Congress led UPA government at the Centre, right from the beginning of last year, when the Lankan army launched an offensive against the Tamils.

Mr Karunanidhi, whose DMK was a constituent of the UPA government, should have pulled out, demanding ceasefire in Lanka. "If Mr Karunanidhi had withdrwn his support, there would have been ceasefire and Tamils would have been protected", she claimed.

Having failed to do this, the Chief Minister had betrayed the Lankan Tamils and was now trying to blame the LTTE leader in a bid to cover up his "misdeeds" on the issue.

People were not willing to believe that he was crying in silence, she alleged, adding they would never forget his betrayel.
