Parthiv's 105 gives Gujarat 27-run lead over Hyderabad
Hyderabad | Thursday, Nov 19 2009 IST

Skipper Parthiv Patel's 105 with eight fours and one six from 142 balls, and his 135-run third wicket partnership with Niraj Patel (58) steered Gujarat to 263 for four, securing a vital 27-run first innings lead, over Hyderabad on the third day of the Ranji Trophy cricket Super League match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here today.

Test discardrd Parthiv stole the limelight after Gujarat mopped up the tail for just 27 runs as Hyderabad ended its first inning at 236 as rain had curtailed play over the previous two days.

Parthiv joined Niraj Patel when Gujarat were 2 for 59 with Hyderabad speedster Absolom picking both the openers.

Parthiv's 185-minute stay in the middle put the visitor's on the comfortable plank after a solid third wicket partnership of 135 runs before Niraj Patel was trapped by spinner Ojha for 58. His 182-minute innings had four boundaries from 142 balls.

Parthiv saw Gujarat past the Hyderabad's first innings total and was the fourth man out at 240 caught behind as Quadri drew him to force an edge to one going away.

At the close of the third day Bhavik Thakar 37 (from 83 balls with 2 fours and one six) had already added 23 runs in their unbroken fourth wicket pair with Diganat Popat batting 3.
