'I want to know what happened outside Cama Hospital': Smita
Mumbai | Thursday, Nov 19 2009 IST

Smita Salaskar, wife of encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar, who was killed in the 26/11 terror attack, today said she wanted to know what exactly had happened outside Cama Hospital in which her husband and two other senior police officers Hemant Karkare and Ashok Kamte were killed by two terrorists. Speaking at a book release function of '26/11 woh 59 hours', written by senior Editor of Star News Jitendra Dixit, she said till today she was not aware what happened outside Cama Hospital on November 26 last year.

Everything else, the incidents at Hotel Taj, Hotel Oberoi, Nariman House and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus had wide coverage by the electronic media and print media. But, nothing much was cited about Cama hospital incident. How her husband was thrown away by terrorists from the vehicle and how he was killed and assistance was not provided in time-- all these questions are on her mind, she said. When she heard that Vijay Salaskar was no more at around 0145 hours on November 27, last year, she did not believe it. When the body was brought home, then she realised her husband was indeed dead.

Ms Salaskar said she met Joint Commissioner Rakesh Maria, for the first time after the incident today and recalled that when Mr Maria came home to condole her at that time, he had said Vijay had done a tremedous job and his one bullet hit a terrorist and he will disclose it to the media at an appropriate time. Today, she asked Mr Maria to disclose what it was as she wanted to know the fact. Addressing the function, Mr Maria said the matter is 'sub-judice' so he can not say anything right know. ''Once the court proceedings are over, he will able to say something about it'', he said.
