BJP has no right to call Bangla Bandh: SUCI
Kolkata | Thursday, Nov 19 2009 IST

SUCI state secretary Provash Ghosh today held both the Centre and state government responsible for price rise of essentials, saying the BJP in West Bengal had no right to call another Bangla Bandh on November 30 on similar issues.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Ghosh said the party had already called for a 12-hour shutdown on November 24 in support of their four-point charter of demands that included containing the spiralling price rise.

''Our party is not greedy of power. We organise movement for the interest of the common people. This is in contrast to the BJP, which is also a communal party,'' Mr Ghosh stated.

The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and the Left Front government in West Bengal had done nothing to curb the continuous rise in the price of essentials, he alleged. ''The BJP has adopted a double standard. Before calling bandh in West Bengal, the party should have called the shutdown in their stronghold state of Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra on the issues,'' he stated.

Though information technology and transport would not be exempted from the purview of bandh, none of our party workers would create any obstackle in the way of the personnel belonging to the sectors on that day, according to him.

''We will appeal to the people to boycott transport on the day of strike and make the bandh a grand success. We have just started our movement and it will continue till February 2010 if our demands are not fulfilled,'' Mr Ghosh said.

''The SUCI is an ally of Trinamool Congress since the Nandigram and Singur movements. However, both the parties have a different political ideology. The bandh will be success even if the Trinamool Congress does not support it,'' he added.
