Bangalore | Thursday, Nov 19 2009 IST

The French Embassy and 'Culturesfrance' would be holding three-month long 'Bonjour India, a festival celebrating Indo-French relationship and cooperation across 18 cities in the country, from December to February.

The mega festival organised in association with the Union Government seeks to establish an exhilarating platform for showcasing various facets of Indian and French contemporary creation.

Bonjour India would reach out to the widest audience across Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa.

Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kochi, Mumbai, Nashik, Mysore, Puducherry, Pune, Trivandrum and Varanasi.

Speaking at the launch, Ambassador of France Jerome Bonnafont said France stood for 'permanent recreation' and was young and open to all people in the world.

''After French President and Indian Prime Minister met two years ago in New Delhi, it was decided to take the bilateral relations to a new plane. Our strategy is to stay together to fight against the evils like terrorism and ensure maximum security in the two countries,'' he said.

The envoy said globalisation would not be a success if there is not respect between and dialogue among different cultures. France stands for spirit and it was committed for close ties with India.

''France is vibrant, open, multiculour and peace loving. You will see all this in Bonjore India. The eclectic mix of events lined up promises to enthrall India, thus, giving it an experience of different facets that define France,'' he said.

The main aim of the festival was to facilitate dialogue and cooperation in varied fields like economy, science and technology, education, art and culture.

In the city, the festival would see 30 leading French scientists from public and private research institutions who would deliver scientific talks in a wide spectrum of fields. This include Laser and Plasma Physics, aerospace and aeronautics, medicine and infectious diseases, environment and Biotechnology.

There would also be a conference on sustainable development and global warming.
