Mumbai | Thursday, Nov 19 2009 IST

Atleast 17 fishermen from Maharashtra died in the cyclone Phyan that hit the state's coastline last week and 80, including 45 from other states, are still missing.

The issue of Phyan and its impact was discussed at a state cabinet meeting headed by chief minister Ashok Chavan here today, in which these details were revealed.

According to sources, while the families of the 17 fishermen will be given Rs one lakh, the state government also announced a Rs 25 crore initial package for those fishermen whose trawlers and nets got damaged.

In the meeting, Mr Chavan also asked the officials to prepare a complete data of the damages of the crops due to Phyan.
