India HC allows release of Kurbaan without deletion of controversial songs
The Bombay High Court today allowed the release of Hindi movie ''Kurbaan'' tomorrow without deletion of two of its songs, when hearing a public interest litigation seeking removal of the two ''objectionable'' songs for hurting setiments of the Muslim community. A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Swatantra Kumar, however directed the producer and the other respondents to the petition to file a say in this regard and adjourned the next hearing till January 14. The Petition was filed by city-based social activist Mohammed Ali Dedwani yesterday, alleging that two songs ''Shukran Allah Wallah....''' and ''La Fatah Illah...'' were obscene. Mr Dedwani prayed the court that the movie should be allowed to release only after deletion of the objectionable songs. ''Kurbaan'' became controversial after Shiv Sena activists last week tore down its posters, featuring the back of Kareena Kapoor. The film is about a professor played by Kareena who marries another lecturer Saif Ali Khan and settles in the US only to discover that he is actually a mastermind terrorist who is trying to hijack and bomb an airplane.
