India Over 8 % of 27 million kids born with retinal disease
Narayan Nethralaya (NN), a leading eye care institution and Singapore-based i2i TeleSolutions, a global innovator in telemedicine software and services, have come together to combat retinopathy of prematurity, a leading cause of preventable infant blindness in the country. Addressing newsmen here today, Dr Bhujanga Shetty, Chairman Narayana Nethralaya, informed in India over eight per cent of 27 million babies born each year were at risk of Retinopathy of Prematurity, a condition affecting the retina of the infant. Stating any child which weighed less than 2000 gm at birth was exposed to the risk of Retinopathy of Prematurity (RoP), Dr Shetty Shetty said the condition can be treated by timely intervention. NN and i2i TeleSolutions had come out with an innovative solution in which infants born with the potentially blinding condition would be screened and the stored data can be sent to the iPhone of the Pediatric Retina Surgeons through the dedicated web-based software for its analysis. -- (UNI) -- 19MS20.xml
