Businessman shot at in Mumbai

Two people fired a round of bullets critically injuring a businessman near Snehdhara Housing Society, in suburban Vile Parle late last night, injuring his leg.

According to police, the accused -- Rakesh Raghunath Parve alias Pappu (28) and Dharaj Shakeel Khan (28), both hailing from Bhopal, fired a round of bullets at Deepak Bhandari (47), a businessman, while he was on his way home at Vile Parle in his car. The accused were chasing Mr Bhandari's vehicle from his office.

When they reached near Snehdhara Society, they said to victim ''Hajibahi ko phone karo'' (Call up Hajibhai) and simultaneously Rakesh took out his country-made pistol and fired one round at Bhandari, hurting his leg, police said, adding that thereafter, they tried to flee, but a police constable - Suresh Walve, who witnessed the incident, chased the culprits and nabbed them.

The accused had come down to the city a couple of days ago and did a recce of the society for the last two days, police said. Police have recovered a country made pistol, two live cartridges and one empty cartridges from the spot. A case of attempt to murder has been registered by the police and further investigation is in progress, police added.
