India Karunanidhi urges Mamata to pay special attention to TN
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today urged Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to pay special attention to the State and sanction additional funds to the tune of Rs 461 crore for timely completion of various projects, including gauge conversions, doubling of lines and laying of new tracks. In a letter to Ms Mamata, a copy of which was released to the press here, the Chief Minister said Rs 240 crore was alloted in 2009-10 for gauge conversion works and another Rs 280 crore was required to complete the projects on time. Due to lack of funds, gauge conversion projects, including conversion of Mayiladuthurai-Tiruvarur-Karaikudi-Thiruthuraipoondi and the Nagapttinam-Tiruthuraipoondy via Tirukkuvalai, could not be complted. He also sought an additional allocation of Rs 77 crore for the doubling of railway track between Chengalpattu and Villupuram and additional Rs 104 crore for laying a new track between Karur and Salem to a distance of 85 km. -- (UNI) -- 18MS45.xml
