Cong demands CM's resignation on mining issue
Bangalore | Wednesday, Nov 18 2009 IST

Opposition leader in Karnataka Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah today demanded resignation of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa alleging that the latter had failed to end looting of natural resources in the State.

Speaking to reporters here, he said huge quantity of iron ore had been illegally mined by the ministers in the BJP Government and the Chief Minister was watching helplessly the 'looting' of the state's natural wealth. ''The Chief Minister had no moral right to sit in his chair. He should immediately sack ministers like G Janardhana Reddy, G Karunakara Reddy and B Sriramulu, who were involved in illegal mining,'' Mr Siddaramaiah charged.

He demanded the BJP government to recommend the Centre a CBI probe, in the lines of moves made by Andhra Pradesh to help expose the guilty.

Mr Siddaramaiah also illeged that the rampant illegal mining on the borders of Karnataka and AP in Bellary district had already been proved 'beyond doubt' by official inquiry and the probe by Lokayukta which had come out in a report form.

The state had witnessed a drastic fall in revenue from the mining sector due to the involvement of the BJP ministers in illegal mining, he added.
