India Corps of engineers celebrates 229th anniversary
The Corps of Engineers, one of the oldest wings of the Indian Army, today celebrated its 229th anniversary. Although the corps was formed in 1780, it was on November 1932 that the groups from Madras, Bengal and Bombay sapers were merged to form the Corps of Engineers. It has three distinct components--the combat engineers, military engineers service and border roads-- that provide all round engineering support to them.
