India BJP Coordination Committee meets for first time
The maiden meeting of the 14-member BJP Coordination Committee, formed as per the demand by the rebels, including some ministers, was held in a hotel here today. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, State BJP president D V Sadananda Gowda, Jagadish Shettar and central party leaders Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu and H N Ananthkumar attended the meeting which lasted about an hour. The meeting discussed ways to thrash out a formula to ensure cohesion in the BJP government which was rocked by dissidence by a group led by the 'Reddy brothers'. The committee resolved to meet at least once in a month and review important issues, if any, that should be taken up by the state government. Later, the crucial Legislature Party meeting was also held on the same premises. Legislators from both groups attended the in camera meeting. However, notable among the absentees was former minister Shobha Karandlaje, who had resigned in the wake of pressure from rebels. The central leadership, after long parleys in New Delhi, had defused the situation. -- (UNI) -- 18MS24.xml
