Panchayat byelections on December 20

Byelections to 128 Panchayat seats, spread over 17 districts of West Bengal, will be held on December 20, Panchayat Minister Anisur Rahaman said today.

Mr Rahaman told mediapersons at Writers' Buildings that the bypoll would be held to 103 gram panchayats, 20 panchayat samities and 5 zilla parishads.

He said Darjeeling would not come under the poll fixtures.

Mr Rahaman said elaborate security arrangements would be made to make the byelections free and fair.
