Diatetic population of India to shoot upto 80 million by 2025
Kolkata | Monday, Nov 16 2009 IST

India, the world's diabetic capital with 50 million population suffering from the disease, will see the number increase upto 80 million by 2025, claimed Novo Nordisk, a leading health care company. Keeping this in mind, the company organised a 'Diabetes Walk' in the city yesterday on the theme ''Understand Diabetes to control it''.

''What is even more a matter of concern is the fact that despite an adult prevalence rate of 6.2 per cent, only 6-7 million people are treated,'' a release issued by the company said.

The event was flagged of by Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty. The participants carried banners that gave information about the disease. Booklets which talked about symptoms, prevention, treatment and preventive measures were distributed. Free blood sugar screening for the participants was also organised by the company.
