Govt will remove 'biggest litigant' tag : Moily
Kochi | Sunday, Nov 15 2009 IST

Union Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily today noted the government was initiating steps to shrug off the tag of being the 'biggest litigant'.

Addressing a gathering at the valedictory function of the 'Workshop on Administrative Law and Court Procedure for Central Government Counsel and Officials' here, Mr Moily said ''in three years time, the government will remove the brand of being the biggest litigant and become the thinnest litigant.'' He said the government was initiating various steps on the front and one of the major initiatives was to put in place a 'National Arrears Grid' to ascertain the exact number of pending cases in every court on a scientific basis. As part of the initiative, efforts were being made to reduce the pendency of the cases from 15 to three years in the next three years, he added. ''The pendency will be reduced by deploying more human resources, introducing technology and establishing state-of-the-art technology,'' Mr Moily noted.
