Karnataka take three points with a draw against Delhi
New Delhi | Friday, Nov 13 2009 IST

Manish Pandey's (50) half-century went in vain as the Ranji Trophy Super League (Group B) clash between Delhi and Karnataka ended in a draw here today.

Karnataka have thus garnered three points thanks to their first innings lead of 106 runs.

Delhi resumed their second innings on the overnight score of 255/9 with tailenders Parwinder Awana and Pawan Suyal at the crease.

Awana (21 n.o.) was in fine form, smashing four boundaries as the hosts added 22 runs to their total in just four overs.

However, Suyal (0) was dismissed by Sreenath Aravind which brought an end to the Delhi innings.

Left-arm pacer Sreenath Aravind was the most effective bowler for Karnataka with figures of 5/49.

In their second innings, Karnataka lost their top order quite cheaply as Delhi pacers Suyal, Awana and Sumit Narwal wreaked havoc with the ball to reduce the visitors to 60/4 by the 25th over.

Karnataka skipper Rahul Dravid (5) failed to repeat the fine form he showed during the first innings as he was sent back to the pavilion after being caught behind off the bowling of Narwal.

Pandey and Thilak Naidu (22) then steadied the boat with a 46-run partnership before Naidu was dismissed by Awana.

Pandey added another 36 runs to the Karnataka total along with Balachandra Akhil (15 n.o) before he was run out.

Akhil and Vinay Kumar (2 n.o.) managed to bat out the remaining overs without further loss of wickets.

Narwal and Awana both claimed a couple a of wickets each while Suyal had one wicket to his name.
