India LR Shukla retains captaincy, Ganguly not to play in Mysore
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) today named a 16-member squad, retaining Laxmi Ratan Shukla as captain, for the Ranji Trophy play against Karnataka beginning November 17 in Mysore. India's former skipper Sourav Ganguly, who made 77 against Baroda at Eden Gardens, opted out as he earlier declared to play only home matches. CAB's seclection committee chairman Sambaran Banerjee yesteday said that a request would be made to Ganguly to play against Karnataka. Batsman Rohan Banerjee was recalled replacing Anustup Majumder, who came in the first 15 after Rohan Gavaskar was declared unfit before Baroda tie, and Manoj Tiwari, Ahoke Dinda and Wriddman Saha also featured in the list, issued by CAB joint secretary Biswarup Dey. The last three players had not played for Bengal as they were selected for Board's President XI in warm up play against Sri Lanka.
