Bypoll results reflect influence of local factors: BJP
New Delhi | Tuesday, Nov 10 2009 IST

Unable to make a dent in the November 7 bypolls held in seven states, the BJP today sought to undermine the successes achieved by the ruling BSP in Uttar Pradesh and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal saying the bypoll results were basically ''influenced by the local factors unlike General Elections''. Asked to react on the achievement of the BSP and Trinamool, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, ''the BJP was of the feeling that every result has a lesson or two for the political parties, but the bypolls were basically influenced by the local factors, however, one has to respect the poll verdict.'' As far as the BJP was concerned, it was concentrating on the coming Jharkhand Assembly election and the prospects were very bright for the party, the party spokesperson added. He said the Congress and other UPA allies have a lot to answer regarding the problems faced by former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda at the hands of Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate.

It is surprising that the Government was yet to lodge cases under the Anti Corruption Act, Mr Javadekar said.
