India Chavan, Bhujbal take oath in 12th Mah Legislative Assembly
Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal today took oath as members of the 12th state Legislative Assembly. They were among the first, who took oath in the Assembly's three-day special session, which began here this morning. The oath was administered by protem Speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh. Earlier, the protem Speaker was administered oath by Governor S C Jamir. Mr Deshmukh was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1962 and had an uninterrupted tenure as a legislator till now, barring a gap from 1995 to 1999. He was elected to the Assembly first time in 1962 along with President Pratibha Devisingh Patil. The Legislative Assembly comprises of 288 legislators, but Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Asim Azmi, who got elected from two constituencies - Bhiwandi (E) and Shivajinagar in Mumbai, resigned from Bhiwandi, thus taking the total number of legislators to 287. -- (UNI) -- 09BY4.xml
