Koda discharged from Apollo hospital
Ranchi | Sunday, Nov 8 2009 IST

Ending nearly a weeklong wait, the Apollo hospital today discharged former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda following which the Enforcement Directorate (ED) swung into action to step up its process of investigation into the more than Rs 2,000 crore money laundering case.

Spokesperson for the hospital Javed Akhtar said Koda was discharged after doctors found him fit this morning.

Income Tax department officials present on the scene were informed that the former Chief Minister was fit.

Koda was rushed away in a private vehicle.

On November 3, he was rushed to the hospital after he complained of abdominal pain and high blood pressure following more than 72-hour interrogation by the IT sleuths and ED officials at his official residence here.

On October 31, the IT department conducted search and seizure operations at 70 locations spread over nine cities across the country, involving Koda and his associates, in connection with the Emoney laundering case.

The ED had been waiting for Koda's discharge to make further progress in its investigation and he was likely to be arrested the moment he was discharged from the hospital.

The former Chief Minister was readmitted for the second time on November 3 after he had been discharged on October 24 following a surgery.

Koda was operated upon for kidney stone on October 21 and was discharged on October 24 from the hospital.

The scam might stand close to Rs 4,000 crore.
