India V Nagar: 55 pc turnout
An estimated 55 per cent of a 2.05 lakh-strong electorate exercised their franchise today for the lone Vaishali Nagar assembly by-poll that passed off peacefully thus sealing the electoral fate of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party nominee and ex-minister Jageshwar Sahu, his principal rival Bhajan Singh Nirankari (Congress) and 13 others. The constituency recorded 75 per cent turnout in both the assembly and general elections in the past 11 months. ''The precise percentage will be known after polling parties of all 221 booths reach Durg district headquarters,'' Returning Officer J P Pathak told UNI. On alleged malfunctioning of some electronic voting machines, he said that there no official report so far. The by-poll was necessitated after BJP MLA Saroj Pandey quit following her election to the Lok Sabha. -- (UNI) -- 07DR100.xml
