Delhi women whip fancied Punjab in inter-state cricket

Delhi whipped fancied Punjab by nine wickets in the ongoing Inter-State senior women's cricket tournament here today at Dhruv Pandove Stadium here.

Electing to bat first, Punjab scored 177 for 6 in the allotted 50 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur played a masterly knock of 77 and was unbeaten.

Her knock was studded with five boundaries. Richa Sahgal (27 with 5 fours) and Rewa Arora (21 with 2 fours) were the other main run-getters.

For Delhi, Lalita Sharma, Shashi Malik and Rewa Malhotra captured 2 wickets each, conceding 23, 32 and 51 runs respectively.

In reply to Punjab's modest total, Delhi rattled up 178 runs in 40.1 overs, losing just one wicket, to win the match triumphantly.

Neha Tomar scored 73 runs with the help of 3 fours and was unbeaten.

Anjum Chopra scored 63, hitting equal number of boundaries and was undefeated. Lalita Kumari (26 with 4 fours) was the other run-getter.

For Punjab, Kamal captured the lone wicket that fell, giving away 37 runs.

Delhi earned five points, including a bonus point.
