India AMU Exec Council holds VC responsible for misconduct in varsity
Charging Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) P K Abdul Azis of harming the institution with his misconduct, the members of the University's Executive Council have called for action against him to put things in order. In a letter to the Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal dated October 13, the Executive Council members have demanded a fact-finding inquiry into the allegations against the VC, on receipt of several complaints. ''An Inquiry Committee had directed the Registrar in mid-September to submit 56 files for scrutiny as a perusal of those files alone will indicate the truth. However, till today no file papers have been submitted,'' Wasim Ahmad, visitor nominee of the Council, alleged today. A copy of the same letter was also submitted to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on October 6. Mr Ahmad alleged that the files were now being doctored by the VC, ''who is believed to have not given the clearance to the Registrar to make the submission.'' He put forth various other allegations like continuous holding of selection committees by the VC even during the inquiry was in progress, suspension of University professors merely on ground of allowing students to hold an Iftar party, among others. ''We demand that the government should order a CBI inquiry of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) inquiry into the matter,'' Mr Ahmad said. Also, the Inquiry Committee should submit its report within a month and till then the VC should be asked to proceed on leave, he added. -- (UNI) -- 07DI23.xml
