India WEF asks CII to mobilise businesses to control TB in India
Geneva-based World Economic Forum has asked a leading Indian industry chamber to increase involvement of business sector in the care and control of tuberculosis (TB), a disease that kills about 1,000 people a day in India, and causes a loss of 100 million productive workdays annually to businesses. While tasking the Confederation of Indian Industry with the onerous responsibilty, the international NGO also handed over leadership of the India Business Alliance (IBA) to CII, which was one of the co-founders of the Alliance, CII said in a statement here today. IBA chief Shaloo Puri said CII with its extensive network is ideally positioned to enhance the business sector response to TB, and make a difference to the lives of people, businesses and the national economy. Quoting government figures, the apex chamber said loss of 100 million productive workdays due to TB cause a loss of 13 billion dollars on account of decline in productivity. -- (UNI) -- 07DI22.xml
