Moily hits out at BJP govt, says "it's most unfortunate"
Bangalore | Saturday, Nov 7 2009 IST

''It is most unfortunate that Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was camping in New Delhi to safeguard his chair at a time when people of North Karnataka were undergoing great suffering due to the recent floods and looking to the government for relief,'' Union Minister for Law and senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily alleged today.

Talking to newsmen after participating in inauguration of state of Art Semon Research and Training Institute here, he said people of 15 districts who had lost everything, including their houses, crops and livelyhood in the unprecedented floods from September 29 to October 4, which also claimed 217 lives, were badly in need of help from the state government to find alternate means of livelihood. ''At this crucial time, the ruling party legislators are spending their time in Resorts and Hotels instead of going to the people.

The Chief Minister is camping in Delhi to safeguard his chair,'' Mr Moily alleged.

''The official machinery has totally failed to come to the rescue of the suffering people. The Centre has sent Rs 500 crore against Rs 1000 crore announced by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his aerial survey. But there is no official machinery to spend the money for the people in need. The state government has totally failed to utilise the funds sanctioned so far,'' he added.
