Special trains to clear rush

Southern Railway today announced 320 special trains to clear extra rush of passengers and pilgrims bound for Melmaruvathur during the ensuing "Irumudi" festival.

A Railway press release here said the Specials being introduced to avoid over crowding in regular trains, will commence on November 28 and run till to January 29, 2010. During the "Irumudi" festival season last year, Southern Railway had operated 290 special trains and earned revenue approximately Rs 6.8 crore, it said. The Specials would be operated from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Somanur, Erode, Palghat Jn, Madurai Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tirumangalam, Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram, Paramakudi, Manamadurai, Devakottai, Karaikudi, Pudukottai, Sengottai, Sivakasi, Rajapalayam, Srivilliputtur,Mettur, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanniyakumari and Nagercoil, the release said
