India Congress promises to make Hyderabad a global destination
The ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh would fight the November 23 civic polls in the city on the poll- plank of making Hyderabad a major global destination. Talking to newspersons here today, Pradesh Congress Committee(PCC) President D Srinivas, while highlighting a series of initiatives taken by the State Government in the last five years to improve infrastructure facilities in the ever-growing metropolis, said the party would take steps to make Hyderabad a global city. ''We are all geared up for the polls, though there has been a very short time for preparations,'' he added. Turning down the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Health Minister D Nagender for the post of Greater Hyderabad Congress President in the wake of dissatisfaction among a large number of aspirants, Mr Srinivas said, the party has ruled out Mr Nagender's resignation. He said by and large there was satisfaction among the city Congress MLAs, on whose recommendations, the list had been finalised and it was their responsibility to ensure the party candidates' win in the polls. ''It is practically impossible to satisfy all, as there were 8000 aspirants for 150 wards. Even after several rounds of shortlisting of candidates, there were four aspirants for each ward,'' he added. The PCC Chief had sent to the party high command, the entire candidates list, with details of recommendation made by each MLA. In some places, aspirants suggested by MPs were also accommodated, he added. Urging the rebel candidates in the fray to withdraw from contest in the interest of the party, Mr Srinivas said, the party would accommodate deserving Congressmen when the nomination of chairpersons for various Corporations were taken up. -- (UNI) -- 07MS16.xml
