9 students injured as school van overturns
New Delhi | Saturday, Nov 7 2009 IST

Nine students of Delhi Public School were injured, two seriously, when their van overturned after being hit by a mini-truck in Kashmere Gate area here this morning.

Altogether, 12 students of DPS, Mathura Road, were travelling in the van and out of them, nine were injured, a senior police official told UNI. ''When the van was taking a U-turn near ISBT, a Tata 407 coming from the opposite direction collided head-on at about 0720 hrs. As a result, the van overturned,'' the official said.

He informed that the mini-truck was running at a high speed after breaking the traffic signal. ''Its driver is absconding,'' he added.

Seven of the injured students were admitted to the Bada Hindu Rao Hospital while two others were taken by their parents and admitted to private hospitals, the official said.

Further details were awaited.
