Delhi experiences maiden fog of the season
New Delhi | November 07, 2009 2:17:55 PM IST

Residents of New Delhi woke up to a day of dense fog on Saturday that engulfed the entire capital making mobility difficult for commuters. his is first fog of the winter season.

Traffic on the roads moved at a snail's pace in the early hours due to poor visibility. The vehicles had switched on their fog and tail lights to avoid accidents.

Motorists, two-wheelers and auto rickshaw drivers had a tough time due to cold and fog.

Due to poor visibility, most of the in-bound and out-bound flights were delayed.

"This is the first fog of the season. The fog is not so much but it will increase in coming days. From today actually the fog will start and it is getting cold, that's why we are wearing warm clothes," said Vinod Kumar, an auto rickshaw driver.

Mani, a resident felt that the winter season has arrived early as compared to the previous year.

"As compared to last year this time winter season has arrived early and as you can see the whole place here is covered with the fog. We never thought winter will come so soon that's why, we have started wearing warm clothes," Mani said.

The fog also disrupted the running of trains.

A major part of north India experiences early morning fog every winter season.

The recent installation of advanced anti-fog equipment at the Delhi airport has improved its functioning but it needs at least 15 metres height visibility and a visual range of 200 metres for flights to take off. (ANI)
