Dalai Lama to reach Delhi Saturday
New Delhi |Saturday, 2009 2:35:05 PM IST

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is expected to arrive here from Tokyo Saturday evening before leaving for Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh for a visit denounced by China, an aide said.

He will come to Delhi after a week-long trip to Japan. Tomorrow (Sunday) he leaves with a small delegation to Arunachal Pradesh, Tempa Tsering, an official in the Dalai Lama's office, told IANS.

The Holiness will be in Arunachal Pradesh for a few days and will hold a religious discourse. I would like to stress that he will not be talking to the press, Tsering said.

Tawang is the town where the Dalai Lama crossed into India in 1959 while fleeing Chinese rule over Tibet.

More than 800 Buddhist monks are expected to welcome the Tibetan leader.
