India GHMC polls: Over 3000 file nominations
Dissidence in the ruling Congress came to the fore in the wake of release of candidates list triggering the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Health Minister D Nagender as Greater Hyderabad Congress President even as over 3000 contestants filed their nominations for the 150 ward seats on the last date for filing of nominations for the November 23 electons. The Telugu Desam Party was not without trouble either as the CPI did not accept the three seats left for it by the TDP. The CPI(M) had also fielded its candidates in 40 wards, even as CPI put up candidates in over 20 wards. Meanwhile, senior Praja Rajyam Party leader K Vidyadhar Rao at a media conference released its list of candidates for 50 wards. Mr Nagender sent in his resignation to Pradesh Congress President D Srinivas after unsucessful aspirants staged dharna in front of his house. High drama was witnessed at the Gandhi Bhavan and also in front of Mr Srinivas' residence with the dissidents staging noisy protests. Some of the protestors threatened to immolate themselves. -- (UNI) -- 06DR105.xml
